Solar Cycle 24

15 Nightly Projections between February 23 - March 10, 2013.

Solar Cycle 24 was a site-specific public animation installation presented by the New York-based non-profit arts organization chashama at "chashama 1351" on Amsterdam Ave. & 125th Str. in New York City. Inspired by Northern Lights, the project was named after and scheduled to coincide with the peak of Solar Cycle 24 (an astronomical event occurring in the Northern Hemisphere at the time). Mimicking the natural appearance of aurora borealis, the animation was only visible in the dark hours between dusk and dawn.

This work is also the topic of a chapter in the book Media Art and the Urban Environment: Engendering Public Engagement with Urban Ecology which was published by Springer Verlag GmbH in 2015.
